Vacant Post One:    Senior Social Worker

Salary:                    £34,000 – £36,000 (depending on experience) Full time position plus 6% pension contribution

Location:                AFRUCA Centre, Manchester

Contract Type:       One year initial contract

AFRUCA (Africans Unite against Child Abuse) is a national charity promoting the rights and welfare of African children in the UK.

This position within AFRUCA enables us to respond adequately to the growing demand from various agencies for specialist cultural and country specific input into child protection case assessments involving African children and families. The post holder will work with others to manage AFRUCA’s capacity to conduct child protection assessments and support families going through different stages of the child protection system.

Our ideal candidate will have minimum 4 years relevant Post Qualifying experience in Child Protection Referral and Assessment and Family Social Work.  They must be able to provide evidence of registration with HCPC. They must have excellent skills in identifying, prioritising and analysing risk of harm to children. They must be able to adapt to working in a non-statutory, small organisational setting. They must have a strong, specialist knowledge and understanding of African cultural practices that impact on children. This post will involve some travel between our two offices in London and Manchester. Ability to speak at least one African language is an advantage.

The postholder must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check to confirm suitability working with children. Benefits include good training and supervision with possibility of contract extension. This position will involve some travel between our two offices in London and Manchester. Essential Car User Allowance policy is in place.
