AFRUCA and ACFS invite you to take part in a consultative meeting on child
trafficking.
Increasingly, cases of children trafficked to the UK
from different parts of Africa are being highlighted by the media, government
agencies and non-governmental organizations.
These children are coming from various countries in Africa to be used
and exploited by people in the UK for different purposes including sexual
exploitation, domestic servitude and benefit fraud, amongst others. A lot of
them are from very poor, indigent families whose parents are unable to look
after them. Others are street children with no one to look after them and cater
for their needs. They all fall prey to child traffickers who are prepared to
bring them to Europe to be exploited as highlighted above.
The UK Government, in realization of the above has
launched a consultation to ask for proposals on an Action Plan to tackle human
trafficking into the UK.
This event will enable members of the African
community in the East London area to input into the government consultation
process by giving their views on the issue of trafficking and what they feel
should be done to prevent it and protect vulnerable children. It is part of a series of consultative
meetings being held in different parts of London by AFRUCA - Africans Unite
Against Child Abuse, in partnership with other African organisations.
Whether this affects you or you have a personal
interest, all are welcome. Refreshment and sandwiches will be provided.
Travelling costs will be re-imbursed.
