2003 National Conference
Safeguarding African Children in the 21st Century

16-17 July 2003

Leicester

Background To The Conference

The Laming Inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbié and its subsequent report have helped to highlight the challenges children like Victoria face on arrival in the country. Aside this, experts working in different fields of child protection and child welfare continue to point to the vulnerability of African children and to gaps within the system to safeguard them from potential abuse. This conference, sponsored by the NSPCC, is being organised by AFRUCA to address the key issues affecting the welfare of African children in the UK. It will also examine how the system can be further enhanced to meet their needs and priorities.
