AFRUCA AWARDED #290,000 GOVERNMENT GRANT

AFRUCA – Africans Unite Against Child Abuse has been awarded a grant of #290,000 government grant to run a national advocacy campaign on safeguarding African children in England.

The grant award was part of a #17 million boost for voluntary organizations working with children, young people and families announced by Children’s Minister Beverley Hughes on Friday 10 February.

Debbie Ariyo, AFRUCA Director said: “We are very excited about this new grant. It will provide us with the needed core funding to sustain the organization over the next three years as well as enable us to further our national advocacy work on safeguarding African children”.

The project will concentrate on the key cities of Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle where AFRUCA has already held regional conferences highlighting the safeguarding needs of African children in partnership with local agencies. It will enable us to work with government agencies, faith and community groups to address key issues affecting the welfare of African children in those cities.

The Children, Young People and Families Grant Programme brings together 5 existing grant programmes from April 2006.
